I chose this book because it actually had two of the words in its title. Haha. I think they also made a show based on this book, but it didn't get very good reviews -- I haven't seen it.
This book tells the story of a small town girl in her early twenties who has just moved to New York with dreams of the big city. She quickly finds a job waiting tables at one of the most prestigious restaurants in town. The story follows her in her training and in the relationships she makes along the way.
I have to say that I didn't really enjoy this book. I didn't find any of the characters to be particularly sympathetic and I grew tired of the main character. I found her to be whiny and I often blamed her for the choices she made.
To be fair, I have never worked in the food industry. I'm sure if I tried to be a waitress, I'd forget orders and spill food all over. From some of the reviews I read, this book does a pretty good job of portraying the restaurant life. Maybe, if I had had different experiences, I would also have appreciated this book more?
