I'm not quite sure how I stumbled upon this book. I'd be willing to bet that I saw it on some online list somewhere and thought it looked pretty intriguing. Spence is a librarian in Detroit and this book is a collection of letters she has written to books she has read.
Some of these letters are love letters and some are breakup letters. They are all pretty funny. I have read some of the books she writes to, some of them I haven't. The letters she wrote to books I have read were pretty spot-on. Her humor and candor are light and refreshing. The letters to books I haven't read do give some spoilers, but I think it's okay. There was nothing huge and shocking that was reveled. What this book did help me with is making a "Books I Don't Want to Read" list and adding new books to my "To Be Read" list. In fact, I even checked out The Virgin Suicides from my school library to start reading tonight. Haha.
This book was fun and entertaining. It was also a quick read. I know this post is really short, but there isn't a lot to write about a book that essentially has no plot. While I read this book in just a few sittings, I think this would make a good book to keep around and read a letter here and there between other books.
So, check it out.
