I was given this book as a gift for my birthday. It is often difficult to find just the right book for someone else, but this was a good fit. This book is a mystery that definitely leaves you guessing until the end.
In the very beginning of this book we meet Alicia. We immediately learn that Alicia has murdered her husband, Gabriel. Alicia has been convicted of the murder but instead of being thrown in jail, she is admitted to a psych center. From the moment she shot her husband, Alicia has not spoken a word.
Enter Theo. Theo is a psychotherapist who is obsessed with Alicia’s case and has himself moved to her institution because he believes he will be the one to finally get Alicia to speak. As Theo gets closer to Alicia, she slowly begins to communicate – but not through speaking. Alicia is an artist by trade and she uses her painting to send messages. As the two seemingly grow closes, the truth of what happened to Gabriel is uncovered.
While this was not my favorite book, it definitely did enjoy reading it. I think I read like 90% of it sitting in the tab room of a debate tournament one day. It moves very quickly and keeps you guessing. The only thing I didn’t love was the ending. I felt like one of the characters did something really stupid and it kind of made me mad about a lot of the book. Haha.
All in all, it was a good read and I definitely recommend it.
